Yesterday, I had the opportunity to interview fashion icon and one of my role models, Diane von Furstenberg, on behalf of The Dallas Morning News. DVF was in Dallas to promote her new scent, Diane, and visit her Highland Park Village store. The designer arrived at Sephora North Park midst girls dressed in signature DVF wrap dresses chanting her motto, "Be the woman you want to be, D-V-F". She happily joined in the chant and took pictures of the scene. Inside Sephora, the atmosphere was thick with excitment as the whole store applauded and cheered. Furstenberg graciously shook hands with Sephora employees and asked each of them their name. One employee couldn't stop exclaiming that the designer was so gracious and kind.
"Well that's a welcome," Furstenberg said.
The namesake fragrance, Diane, is made of DVF's two favorite flowers, frangipani and violet. She described these two flowers as "ying and yang". Her goal with her fragrance was "to create something that would last and something that is timeless, but it's really about seduction". She went on to describe that women have forgotten the power of perfume and inside the bottle is her "secrets of seduction". Whenever she spritzed the perfumeon someone, she would say with a glimmer in her eye, "See what happens".
I asked her why at this time in her career she decided to create a fragrance.
"Well because I wanted to work with this woman, Chantal Roos, and she was running YSL beauty so I had to wait until she left, until she sold the company, so really that's why, I waited for her.
DVF spoke openly that she believed her life purpose was to inspire women to "be the women you want to be". She said she does this through her work, her life and her philanthropy. She expressed that she became more than she thought she wanted to be and she fulfilled her own dreams.
In turn, I was curious who inspires her.
"Oh my god, every woman inspires me. It doesn't have to be somebody famous. Forever and more and more I am inspired by women and their strength and their everything".
DVF's Arm Party
J'adore her DVF for H. Stern watch! (The black stone) |
DVF, as well as the Sephora staff, tied white ribbons embossed with the Diane von Furstenburg label around attendees' wrist. She even tied one on my wrist during our interview. The ribbon was sprayed with Diane and the bold sensous scent embodied your aroma.
The fragrance comes in Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and body lotion.
Diane also showed off her custom DVF Harper Connect Daybag in Leopard. The bag has a specific pocket just for the iPad. You can purchase the DVF Harper Daybag in Leopard here! She also wore the fierce DVF Zia Sandals in Leopard.
My time with her was one of great inspiration, excitement and above all, a dream come true! It's not everyday that you meet someone you've looked up to since you were 15.
You can read more of my coverage of the event on The Dallas Morning News.
